Shaikh Dr Thaika Shuaib was vested with the Sufi mantle of the ‘Arūsiyya branch of the Qādiriyya path by his father and guide, Shaikh Ahmad ‘Abdul Qādir, who had inherited the mantle from the two notables, Sahib al-Jalwah Shahul Hamid [ஜல்வத் நாயகம் Jalwat Nayagam] and Sahib al-Khalwah ‘Abdu-l Qadir [ஃகல்வத் நாயகம் Khalwat Nayagam], may Allah be well pleased with them all.
His father first anointed him as a spiritual deputy [khalifa] at a relatively young age. Soon after, he was authorised as a full fledged spiritual guide [shaikh]. He was also made head of all the tariqa related institutions such as the Takyas and Madrasas in India and Sri Lanka. He has been performing this role for over 4 decades.
At the spiritual indication [ishara] of his father, he made the journey to Iraq to meet Sayyid Shaikh ‘Abdul Karīm al-Kasnazānī [d. 5 Feb 1978]—head of the Kasnazaniyya branch of the Qadiriyya path. He was warmly received and was conferred with a deputy-ship [khilafat]. It was a blessing that served to shorten his proximity to Sayyidina-sh Shaikh ‘Abdul Qadir al-Jilani in the spiritual hierarchy.
With 2 branches of the Qadiriyya tree combined, his spiritual lineage is as follows:
In addition to the above, he has been appointed spiritual deputy for other tariqas. He graciously accepted these for the innate blessings in the association with the spiritual masters of the past. But as a strict rule of thumb, he sticks to the Qadiriyya way without making a show of his other affiliations.
